a zone where you feel most comfortable.

How did you get into the music industry? What inspired you?
-I started writin' back in 2004 i believe, started recordin songs in 2005 with my

continued recording with another 1 of our bruh's (E-Walk). We all do still do
music together but each work on solo endeveours. The thing that inspired me
to do music was in 1999 my pops was killed, he worked for the oakland pd.
From then on i knew i had to do something that i loved and would make him
proud, i've always loved music so i started it and i dont think i'll ever stop.
It's a way for me to get things off my mind.

What upcoming projects are you working on?
-I have a few things im working on this year. I'm working on a couple solo
mixtapes the first one that im putting out is called "Just The Beginning", it will
have a few features from local bay area artists. My brother Slick, Dre Weez and
I will be working on a mixtape, and You'll probably see me featured on a few
artists tracks/mixtapes.

Are there any artists out there you would like to work with, but haven't got the chance yet?
-Of course their are, it would be too many to name but a few that stick out
would be Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj Jay-Z, Drake, Fabolous T.i., Ludacris, Juelz
Santana, Trey Songz, Wiz Khalifa, Kanye West, Common, Pharrell, Jadakiss,
Rihanna because i think her voice is so sexy, and Ryan leslie productions are
crazy but the list goes on.....

Who are your favorite artists right now?
-Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Drake

What are some things that people don't know about you?
-I hate spiders, i think i might have arachnophobia. haha.

Whats some advice you can give the people that want to get into the music
industry?

-I would just tell them make shure you be yourself, do you.

TAM*KIDD Interview

TAM*KIDD Interview

Photobucket

Tell us about yourself. Whats your name? Where are you from?
-My name is Tam*KiDD, I'm from a place where Art lives..look for Art on the Map and that's where you will find me! ....Killa Cali of course! lol

What does the word "based" mean to you?
-The word based encompasses a lot of words to describe it..It almost I think means a little something different to everyone. To me, besides being just mellow and kinda just cooling out, I feel that you can't be based unless your a positive individual. This isn't just about the music but its an attitude, an outlook, a way of perceiving life in general on another level of awareness. Being based is looking at the world around you as a gift and taking it all in with love...appreciating everything in its truest, realest form. Based individuals are free minded individuals, abstract thinkers...I think maybe that's why so many people are attracted to the movement. There is a freedom that surrounds it. I mean at the end of the day, we all want to be free. Free from classifications, free from judgment and labels. Just free to be creative and be ourselves and express that the way we like. I try to be a positive person and I think its a positive movement so I definatley support it and its artists!

How did you get into the music industry? What inspired you?
-It's kinda a crazy thing I actually have been working in this industry behind the scenes for years as an artist/painter/entrepreneur. I used to create these large custom art paintings for many celebrities early on that I would turn into posters and the artists would sell them on tour (Usher, Janet Jackson, Method Man, Redman, Pink, DMX, Eve etc), then used my money from my art and poster company and built my own full on music production & recording studio. I kinda in a sense retired my paint brush for some years to fully focus on my music & give it my 100%.

In the beginning, I actually started producing beats first. I used to fall in love with my beats sorta speak kinda like when a woman gives birth to her baby, I didn't want to give em up to another artist because I had my own idea as to what the song was trying to say. So that is how I started experimenting with writing and recording vocals. I always wrote poetry so it was a natural transition for me. I took piano lessons when I was very young and actually was reading sheet music before I could read sentences so music was always in me it was just about taking my time to find my groove, my own personal style and that just sorta started to take on its own shape after each song that I did. From the start I always mixed rapping and singing because I always loved rap songs with R&B singers on the hooks as well as R&B songs with rap artists on the intro or bridges...so I always wanted my music to be the fusion of both. I also have always loved to dance, so I have always gravitated towards alot of fun beats that make you just wanna move. So that's kinda how my style progressed. You will hear some songs from me that have more rapping than singing then some others that have more singing than rapping, I like to keep the audience guessing as to what's coming next. It's funny when people try to classify me and say well what are you, are you a singer or a rapper; I tell them neither one..I AM A MUSIC ARTIST. Art is what I do, it is every breath that I breathe. Art is my entire world around me. I am a walking, living, thriving creation. Music is just another medium that I use. Just like when I paint or do photography or design clothes, or direct a music video. Its all about artistic expression.

As far as who has inspired me, there are so many other artists that inspire me the list is huge! I take a lil bit from each one. My music is kinda like taking everything I have seen, heard, experienced, felt, etc..mixing it all up in a bowl and whalla! Here is Tam*KIDD! My biggest inspiration has always been Michael Jackson. I drew my first portrait of him when I was 6 years old. He is just such an amazing entertainer and such a positive person. Him and Janet were very inspiring. Everything they did was to perfection. But its their persona that's so captivating. My favorite rapper was Tupac. He was just in a class of his own. I really miss him & now Michael. My two most very favorite artists are making music in Heaven now. I hope I can one day be just as inspiring to someone else as they all were to me. That would be a blessing.

What upcoming projects are you working on?
-Currently I am working on completing my first official full release which is my Mixtape titled, 'STARR LITE STARR BRITE". I have been taking my time with it because this is my first introduction to the world sorta speak. I like to say I have that "Dr. Dre Syndrome", I'm very much a perfectionist so I have been taking my time making sure what I am putting together is a masterpiece in my eyes. It's a mixtape but I am presenting it more like an album as far as my standards for the release, the beat choices, the mixing and mastering...I am looking forward to surprising everyone with it! My fans have been awaiting a full release from me for awhile. I have not really dropped anything officially yet, only leaked a few songs myself because my management didn't want me just throwing my stuff out there without that label marketing money behind it. So we have kinda been holding off while I have been negotiating with labels for the last year. But everything is falling into place, so I'm looking to drop it very soon probably late January, early February. It's a really fun project. It's one of those CD's you can just put on and clean the whole house or take a whole road trip and never have to skip to another track, its very energetic. The mixtape features all the Grind-a-Holikz artists. So you will hear me on songs with The Teknitionz, Nio tha Gift, The FreshBoyz, Mike Dash E, J-Tunes, Young Bass, F-Squad, Young berg, B-Money and many more! You will also hear special colab features of me and J. Mash of the FreshBoyz, together we joined forces as a group & songwriting team called the "SMASH ADDICTZ". We have been writing alot of music for big named artists for a while now, we have been kinda low key until now we just kinda started really putting our name out there to the general public. We currently wrote a few tracks for Britney Spears New Album we are hoping will get picked up and we have a few in the works for Gwen Stefani as well. Our "Smash Addictz Mixtape" will follow the release of this mixtape maybe around Spring or summer of 2010. That Mixtape is SUPER saucy so ya please look for that one too! You won't regret it! We really aim to make "great" music!

Are there any artists out there you would like to work with, but haven't got the chance yet?
-Ya I love colaborating! There are so many artists I would love to work with! But especially there are alot of producers I am interested in working with! As far as locally in the bay I would love to do a few tracks wit Young L, Traxamilliion & Rick Rock. Beyond the bay I would like to work with producers; like Timbaland of course, and I have always loved Pharrell Williams, Will I.AM. and Dallas Austin. So if I mentioned you and your reading this and you want to work with me let's do it! Twitter me! @TAMKIDD !

Who are your favorite artists right now?
-Well since Michael passed in June he has been pretty much in constant rotation even more now just because I love to study him, his lyrics, his melodies like crazy. I am listening to Chris Brown's new album right now, I am a big fan of him. I download lots of mixtapes with just all the latest hottest tracks on it so I can try to keep my ear current as to what music is evolving into. Its important to write music ahead of the trends so your music always sounds fresh and not dated. You know I am always looking for new artists to colab with that's when you will find me on The Based Update and also on Digital Dripped to get all my new based music! (All based artists be sure to hit me up for a colab!!!)

What are some things that people don't know about you?
-Good question...I would have to say the fact that I am absolutely addicted to fashion! I have always loved clothes, shopping..taking clothes I already had and changing it and flipping it into a different style or design. Dyeing the fabric or cutting off sleeves, bleaching it, embellishing it etc. I have always designed clothes. My first designs I remember I drew in the 2nd grade. I also love bargain shopping and finding pieces people would normally not even think we be dope and then flipping it into my own style. Like thrift stores are always fun to treasure shop...there are so many cool things you can find there! Never underestimate thrift store shopping! It's good for the soul! Mix designer with non- designer, vintage, whatever...there are no rules in fashion really anymore. Anything kinda goes now so your creativity is limitless! I think eventually I want to have my own clothing line somewhere down the road, maybe even a own a little boutique on Melrose or on Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley or somewhere in San Francisco. I think my store would be so raw I can't wait!

Whats some advice you can give the people that want to get into the music industry?
-I would tell them to make sure they really want this bad because this industry will chew you up and spit you out if you don't have the stamina to stick with it. Giving up cannot be an option for you. You can't be someone that is detoured by peoples opinion of you or their criticism because off top you are gonna come across a lot of hate! You have to hold strong to that dream in your heart, keep God close at every moment and never stop! You have to realize that your going to have to make many sacrifices for success, but this is necessary. Don't be afraid, a great artist will suffer for their art. In the end it makes us better!

Where can people find more about you?
-There are a few different places you can go. You can definatley start by checking out my new Music Video "GET IT BOY". You can find that on my YouTube Page: www.YouTube.com/TAMKEEZI ...Everyone can go there and subscribe to my channel and add me as a friend!
