Jaye Lewis Interview

Jaye Lewis Interview

Tell us about yourself. What’s your name? Where are you from?
-Jaye Lewis is the name and hip hop is my aim. I’m a 25 year old upcoming rap artist from the SFC (San Francisco, California). I lived in the Bay Area all of my life. Overall I’m just a regular guy with a musical talent.

What does the word "based" mean to you?
-Based means get your weight up! Based is motivation! If you don’t have haters you’re not doing your job and you’re definitely NOT Based. I’m lyrically based in this music and got my armor on! I’m the Hip Hop Obama and I’m ready for a Change! - Me

How did you get into the music industry? What inspired you?
-Music has always been my ultimate dream in life, but I would say around 17 is when I got serious about it. I own 100+ CD’s of purely Rap and HIP HOP. I took classes at city college of SF in producing and audio, but I had to drop out to help at home. This past year my music took a turn. I decided to start laying tracks, and from the moment I stepped foot in the booth, the spectators ate it up. My manager, introduced me to a great production team who I work with, and really promoted the Jaye Lewis movement. The rest is history like they say! My inspiration comes from within. I love music to its fullest. Artist like me, definitely need moral support. If you know anybody with a dream - dream with em'. That’s just the truth! I do this for the Bay!

What upcoming projects are you working on?
-Currently, I’m working on my first album with producer 1988 (Hunter Walker) from New York and recording at the studio of Gabe from Tha Watchmen in Daly City. True hip hop heads are definitely going to feel this shit. I also am collaborating on a mix tape with rap artist Styx Figure from Washington, DC. Stay tuned for the Aviators mix tape!

Are there any artist out there you would like to work with, but haven’t got the chance yet?
-Actually there are a couple artist from the Bay Area that I would like to work with. Erk The Jerk is one for sure. He has a smooth sound. I would like to do a track with E40 cause you ain’t Bay if you not fucking with forty! He’s one of the Bay Area rap game revolutionist. You go almost anywhere they know who 40 and Mac Dre are. Goaple. The list could go on. But those are artist I’d like to work with from the Bay. In the meantime I’m really working on perfecting my own craft and skills. The question is who wants to collab with Jaye?

Who are you favorite artist right now?
-Okay. Its narcissistic to say myself right? Well, I have a list of artist that I follow: Jay-Z, Fabolous, Wale, Drake, Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Currensy, J Cole, Gucci Maine, Ludacris, The Game, 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Jeezy, Em, Juelz Santana, and Freeway. I think those are the main artist right now and that I slap on the regular.

What are some things that people don’t know about you?
-That I’m Jamaican and Black. That’s a big one, because I’m so Americanized! Blat Blat! No. But seriously, my father isn’t here in the states. I have a huge shoe collection!!! More than I can store. I’m talking Bedroom closet, hall closet, 2nd bedroom closet - its that serious. My wife is keeping me in line on that though. I have a slight OCD problem. Everything has to be organized and routine the way I set it. I do this music, but I’m a quiet low key person. No interest in the fast life. Truth #If I haven’t done it, I wont say it.

What’s some advice you can give people that want to get into the music industry?
-I think the best advice I could give another person is to stay committed to what they are working towards, and never let anyone tell you what you cant do. Sounds cliché’ but its real. Hard work pays off, and it doesn’t happen overnight. The longer you stay committed and driven, the more success and doors that will open. And of course always stay humble, and give thanks to the creator everyday for your talent. You can be here one day and forgotten about the next. Never forget where you came from, and don’t forget the people that helped you get there.

Where can people find more about you?
-People can find me on Facebook, Reverbnation, Twitter, Sound Cloud, YouTube. Keyword for all these sites is Jaye Lewis or Jaye Lewis1. Check Me Out!!

-Lastly I just want to say thank you to all the fans and friends I have accumulated so far. Follow me on twitter.com/jayelewis to the top! I’ve been getting a lot of love and, positive feed back. I appreciate you! Just keep rocking with the kid cause I’m just warming up. Jaye Lewis is here to stay!!

Roach Gigz Interview

Roach Gigz Interview

Tell us about yourself. Whats your name? Where are you from?
-IM ROACH MOTHAFUCKIN GIGZ AND IM A MOTHAFUCKIN RAP STAR FROM THE BAY MOTHAFUCKIN AREA

What does the word "based" mean to you?
-I never really thought about it, or knew too much about the word based except for back in the day it used to mean like bootsy or weak. All I really know is that Lil B rep that shit so hard, the whole fucking world knows about it now. And if it means doing what you want to do without caring what what anybody thinks, than man I’m a 100% supporter. I’m a firm believer in being yourself and not giving a fuck what is said about you. Because only you can create your own definition of real. That shit is way harder than it looks though man, because as humans we feel like we need someone else approval to validate ourselves. But in the end your stuck with yourself, in front of a mirror, so you just have to be happy with the man looking back at you feel me. There is always going to be someone who hates or doesn’t like what your doing, or lets their own personal experiences make them feel like they have some type of say about what you got going on, your success, the way you dress, talk, carry yourself, whatever. But fuck that, for all the people like that, there are so many more that will just fuck with you for being you.

How did you get into the music industry? What inspired you?
-I always used to fuck around and write. And I would watch my older patnas rap and shit when I was younger. But I never really recorded nothing on my own until 2006. I was a senior in High School, and I had a free demo recording program and a cheap little mic, and started making mixtape songs in my closet over beats I downloaded off Limewire. As far as artists everybody know Mac Dre was my biggest inspiration. Other than that there was a bunch of crazy shit going in my life around that time which inspired me to start in some way, but the point is I did. And once I started making these low quality ass songs and people liked them, I started to believe I could really do this. Then me and my patna Lil 4 Tay ended up making a song called I Get It, it blew up locally and that was my first real sneak peek of success. I love music, I love when other people love my music, and that just keeps me going and working hard.

What upcoming projects are you working on?
-I got a little surprise coming. Something to switch it up, and keep people listening. That's about to come sooner than expected. Then I’m working on finishing my album, and getting everything as big as it can be before I drop. Really I just go in the lab and make dope music. I don’t always know where its going to end up, but trust me when I tell you I’m only getting better, believe that.

Are there any artists out there you would like to work with, but haven't got the chance yet?
-Lil Wayne and Andre 3000. Eventually, I want to work with the best, but I’m forever open to work with anybody that I respect who makes good music. Too many to list.

Who are your favorite artists right now?
-This little band I just seen playing at the 24th and Mission BART this morning.

What are some things that people don't know about you?
-My Birthday is April 25, hit me on twitter for next year’s presents drop off location. I’m a father. I’m addicted to BBQ sunflower seeds, but only the brand that is 2 for a dollar. I don’t know man, all my music is a representation of myself and my story in some way. I think people will find out more about me and my thoughts as more material starts coming out. I feel like if people meet me, I’m a cool dude, we could chop it up, and then you’ll know me even better. But don’t judge me or think you know until you really know, you know.

Whats some advice you can give the people that want to get into the music industry?
-Be great.

Where can people find more about you?
-Official Website
-MySpace
-Twitter
-Just google me man...i got pages for ages

Moe Green Interview

Moe Green Interview

Tell us about yourself. Whats your name? Where are you from?
-What’s good. My name is Moe Green and I'm coming out of Vallejo,Ca. I am signed to Interdependent Media. I am 22 years old. My team is called The Out Crowd.

What does the word "based" mean to you?
-I honestly have been trying to figure it out. Lil B kind of threw me off with the pretty bitch stuff lol but to me i guess it just means being yourself and in your own zone. And being extremely rare and relaxed.

How did you get into the music industry? What inspired you?
-Industry lol. Its funny you ask that because me and Droop-E were just going back and forth about if I am in the “industry” or not. I don't think I am “in” but I am working. I just love music. I want to make music i honestly feel needs to be made. There are people who are superstars and there are people that are just starting off,and i felt that somebody had to make music for the dreamer and the person really trying to reach their goals. So i guess you can say the want to make honest and timeless music would be my inspiration.

What upcoming projects are you working on?
-I have my free street album “Rocky Maivia:Non-Title Match” out for people to check out and get to know who Moe Green is. I also am getting ready to release my album “To Whom It May Concern” with producer Rob-E down the line.

Are there any artists out there you would like to work with, but haven't got the chance yet?
-I would like to work with E-40,K-Os,Cee Lo,and anybody new that is doing what I am doing.

Who are your favorite artists right now?
-Dom Kennedy, Wiz Khalifa,Truthlive, Currensy, Big K.R.I.T, Meg Maples,Smith Andrews,Ray Guevara, Joey Cool, J-Dub, Damey,Jay Ant...to many to name

What are some things that people don't know about you?
-That I am a huge fan of “one hit wonders” and 90’s pop music.

What's some advice you can give the people that want to get into the music industry?
-Just be ready to work. Its not just about how many projects you put out its about who you get it to. Things been going really good for me and i only dropped 1 mixtape before Rocky Maivia. Just build up your network and do music that feels right. Don’t try so hard to impress the people because if you stay true to yourself people will come.

Tell us about yourself. Whats your name? Where are you from?
-Well first off I just wanna say thanks to everybody at TheBasedUpdate.com for giving me this opportunity. But my name is S.Dub and im coming out the Inland Empire, Rialto to be specific.

What does the word "based" mean to you?
-To me the word based just means staying true to yourself. Thinking positive and not really caring what others think about you, cuz you know who you are as a person. I think it’s all about giving off that real good aura. Pretty much just being real comfy in your skin u feel me.

How did you get into the music industry? What inspired you?
-I don’t know if I would say im in the music industry yet, but I been making music for a long time. I started writing songs when I was maybe 12 or 13. And I started recording when I was 16. What inspires me the most is just life in general you know. Everything from what’s going on in the news to what I do in my everyday life.

What upcoming projects are you working on?
-Well I just released my first “best of” mixtape, hosted by DJ Sly-D. That was put out through TheBasedUpdate.com and DatPiff. And im about 70% done with my next street album “Best Coast Chronicles vol. 2”. Look out for that it should be out sometime in august.

Are there any artists out there you would like to work with, but haven't got the chance yet?
-Yea there’s a lot of artists I’d like to get in the studio with. I’d love to get a couple beats from Young L and see what I could do with them. And maybe even a couple features from the whole wolfpack.

Who are your favorite artists right now?
-Honestly my favorite artists right now are my homies A-Dub, Crews & Louney G. But Outside of the click I’d have to say I stay listening to game, tech n9ne, tyga, plies and pac of course.

What are some things that people don't know about you?
-Probably the fact that I used to go real hard on the video games when I was younger, but I kinda grew out of that over the last few years.

Whats some advice you can give the people that want to get into the music industry?
-Just do you, and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do the music you wanna do. And speak on what’s really goin on in your life don’t try to replicate what you see on tv.
