FreeSol Interview

FreeSol Interview

Tell us about yourselves. What are your names? Where are you guys from?
FreeSol Anderson - the creator and mc of the band from Memphis TN.
E. Ives - The guiatarist and vocals from Memphis by way of Alabama.
Kickman - drums and vocals from West Memphis Arkansas.
Mo Danger - Keys and Bass from Germany, Alaska, & South Carolina.
Dj. Charlie White - Dj from Virginia.

How did you guys get your start in the music industry? What or who inspired all of you?
-We all have spent our lives both in love and involved in music. We met each other with the same goal, to start a rap band, almost 9 years ago in Memphis, TN. There was no one inspiration for all of us. Its 5 of us, so obviously, our horizon of music streches wide and far. Examples would be Prince, U2, Police, TuPac, MJ, ColdPlay, Sade, Kanye West, Jay-Z, and so on.

What upcoming projects are you guys working on? Anything something special coming up?
-We are dropping our Interscope LP, debut "No Rules" this fall. We worked with producers/writers from Timbaland, Jim Jonsin, Cool and Dre, Dave Tozer, Angie and Janae, Rob Knox and Justin Timberlake. One of our favorites, "Audition" is featuring our hometown legend, 8 Ball from the space age pimps 8 Ball and MJG. Make sure you check it out here for tour dates to see when we will be in your area

If you could describe the music of FreeSol in a few adjectives what would they be?
-I can't. Ill let you try!

Are there any artists out there you guys would like to have the chance to work with? If so who?
-Personally, I would like to work with Kanye, Nikki Minaj, and 30 seconds from Mars.

What does the word "based" mean to you? and if you didn't know what it meant until now what do you think of it?
-I wasn't familar with the term but after hearing your definition I would say it sounds a lot like FreeSol. I definitely do what I want when I want. I've never been lead by anyone's opinion over my own.

Who are your favorite artists right now? Who's playing through your speakers?
-We all have different favorite artists but right now mine would be Kanye West, 30 seconds from Mars, Big Sean, Miguel, and Rick Ross.

What’s some advice you guys can give to everyone that you have learned so far in your journey that could come in handy to someone else?
-My advice to someone trying to get a break in the music business or just achieve any dream, period would be to make sure its really your number one dream. If your not committed then you have to be really lucky. Nothing major is going to fall in your lap. It takes hard work, focus, sacrifice, sweat, blood on top of luck, knowing the right people, and fate. Just make sure you are listening to the voice inside of us all with a pure heart and not with greed or selfishness.

Where can people find more about FreeSol?

Masked Clothing Interview

Masked Clothing Interview
#FashionWeek

Tell us about the line, What is it and how did it start?
-Masked is a conceptual lifestyle brand based on people getting sick of being Masked from the truth and held back from what they really want to do in life. Being tired of the rules and rebellion. It’s like the underdogs finally getting their shinning moment. Masked actually started while I was designing a shirt for Modern Mischief. As I was designing I just had an epic thunderstorm in my mindand concepts where developed. I think my eyes got really wide too. I might have also made some kind of “WOO” sound.

How would you describe the style of your brand?
-Street-rock… Urban-goth is probablywhat it should be filed under. It’s like if DMX dated Courtney Love… and they had a child names Pierre. No that just took it too far. What type of people wear Masked Clothing?
-Really awesome people… Me, my Mom Olga, Young L, Lil B, Lost prophets, Jeffree Star, Random Celebs and Bands. If that’s what you meant. If not then just really awesome people wear Masked. There are millions of clothing lines in the world, what makes yours stand out?
-Besides the fact that we are like the Lamborghini of clothes and most new brand these days are Hyundais. I only design for my own companies, so one really big factor that stands out is you can’t get any of my artwork unless it’s my brand or I am partnered in it. Masked really portrays my simplistic yet thoroughly thought out and side.

Since the start of this clothing line, what has been your favorite piece? Why?
-The “Knife Life” Tank. It’s just classic, yet edgy. Every time I wear it girls swoon all over me, so obviously that’s a huge plus. FACT!
Masked Clothing is just one of you few clothing lines, where would you like to see this line in 5 years?
-Yeah I keep popping out new lines every second. I have too many ideas, but maybe there’s never too many ideas. I’d like to see Masked as huge as possible. Brad Pitt rockin’ it or Rosie O’Donnel that would def be crazy. That’s like next level people wearing my stuff. It’s really an honor to see anyone wearing it though.

Anything special the clothing line has in the future that you want to share?
-I usually keep everything underwraps, so there isn’t much I can reveal. Hints and secrets may come out through Twitter within the months though.

With what you have learned with putting together a line, what advice would you give people that want to start their own?

-I learned the whole business just through friends, ex girlfriends… trial and error. You just gotta get out there and do it! I never went to school… EVER! Actually I did all the high school stuff whenever I’d show up. Stay in school kids! Advice would be don’t do it unless you do it because it is your passion. Don’t do it unless you are spitting out something original and completely new. Too many copycats out there. Don’t do it unless you are ready to make this your life because there isn’t a moment where you aren't living your brand.

Kreemo Clothing Interview

Kreemo Clothing Interview
#FashionWeek

Kreemo Clothing is the newest clothing line that I got sucked into. I am sure you will too because their clothes have that eye-poppin-I-need-some-gear-now feel! Another thing that is attractive about this line is like me, everyone involved deeply in the line is 20 years old and in college. That is a potent mix, so this is one of those lines that you will be hearing about for a long time to come. Kreemo will having you "Beg To Differ!"

Tell us about the line, What is it and how did it start?
-Kreemo was founded in 2008 by Brian Wright, Lavan Wright(cousin) and Hugh Brown. Brian, Lavan, and Hugh were influenced by their hometown, New York City and its surroundings. These three spent much of their time roaming the streets of Soho and other pop culture areas. Roaming the streets of Soho enabled them to see brands such as stussy, supreme, bape etc. After some time Brian Wright, the creator of Kreemo, became tired of spending his money on other brands and decided to make his own brand. This is where the journey began. A year after the idea was developed Brian moved to Atlanta where he met me, Desmond Attmore. I became the newest member and Marketing director of Kreemo. When I first met Brian I was working on my own line, but eventually I gave that up and brought my marketing specialties to Kreemo.

How would you describe the style of your brand?
-As of right now we are only printing tee shirts but I would compare the style of the brand to that of other major brands like Original Fake, BBC, stussy etc. I would describe Kreemo to these brands because they all have dope graphics printed on tees.

What type of people wear Kreemo?
-The Kreemo demographic is very wide. It ranges from kids, Adolsence and even Adults of any race.

There are millions of clothing lines in the world, what makes yours stand out?
-I think one of the most unique things about the Kreemo brand is that fact that we are still in college and we have created a movement like no other. Connecting with artist like Rick Ross, Kid Cudi, Lupe Fiasco and Wiz Khalifa. We have proven that we can handle our business while at the same time getting our education. Another unique thing is the fact that we are all under 21.

Since the start of this clothing line, what has been your favorite piece? Why?
-My favorite piece would have to be the Ghost tee. The Ghost is Kreemo. When people first see the ghost they don't know what to think they just know that its something different. Ive even heard it looks "weird" lol.

Where do you see Kreemo in 5 years?
-On behalf of my team and I, I would say we see Kreemo as one of the top Lifestyle brands in the world. Kreemo started off as a clothing line but has emerged into a brand that can provide almost any creative service from graphic designs, videos, marketing and branding for other major companies. Recently we teamed up with Atlantic Records and Wiz Khalifa to do some graphic design work for the Rolling Papers album.

Anything special the clothing line has in the future that you want to share?
-When the time is right you will hear about it.

With what you have learned with putting together a line, what advice would you give people that want to start their own?
-I would tell them to do as much research as possible. Study the ins and outs of what your trying to do. This knowledge will def help you in the long run. Last but not least don't be afraid to be different and take risk.

Pink Dolphin Interview

Pink Dolphin Clothing Interview
#FashionWeek

Pink Dolphin Clothing has been advancing and pushing creativity since the first release back in 2008. From 2008 till now, it is the only brand that I have supported to the fullest since the very beginning. If this is your first time hearing about Pink Dolphin Clothing I warn you: Be prepared to become a grass-root follower of this line!

I was able sit down for an interview with Cena from PD, Pink Dolphin's creative director for this post. **These are his opinions and not the entire clothing line's.

Tell us about the line, What is it and how did it start?
- Pink Dolphin is a lifestyle brand that embodies promoting positivity and uniqueness. It was established in 2008 by a few young entrepreneurs who had a rare vision.

How would you describe the style of your brand?
- Simplicity, bright colors and fresh are definitely some keywords that come to mind. The main thing that sets us apart from other lines is that we aren't scared about putting something new and innovative out there. If we like it, we're going to put it out there.

There are millions of clothing lines in the world, what makes yours stand out?
- We are real trendsetters in this streetwear game and that is what I believe sets apart the "popular" brands from the others. I personally think the longevity in this game stems from being ahead of the curve and releasing products that others aren't doing. I see alot of smaller brands trying to copy the established brands and doing that will not get you far.

I'm a big music fan and looking at the streetwear industry and the rap game, I see a lot of similarities. There are alot of rappers out there who rap about or sound like someone that is mainstream or established. There are alot of similar instances in the streetwear industry so maintaining your own lane is a huge part to being successful.

Since the start of this clothing line, what has been your favorite piece? Why?
- My favorite peices actually drop this winter 2011 and next spring 2012 haha. We have some crazy cut and sew peices dropping. But as far as already released, The Navy Waves snapback from spring 2011 is a favorite for sure.

Pink Dolphin has been advancing and expanding since day one, where do you see Pink Dolphin in 5 years?
- I don't really speculate that far because there are so many unexpected obstacles that life throws at you and things could change in an instant. But we will definitely keep dropping heat so be ready because its really going to start heating up!

Anything special the clothing line has in the future that you want to share?
- Stay tuned for our cut and sew peices which will begin dropping this Fall. We are also almost ready to begin dropping our accessory line within the next month or 2 so stay tuned!

With what you have learned with putting together a line, what advice would you give people that want to start their own?
- Create your own lane and don't worry about what others are doing. As far as your product is organic and unique, you will start building that grassroots fanbase. If you are in it for quick fast money, You should stop pursuing it now.

Where can we find out more about Pink Dolphin? Where can we buy your clothes!?

NDK Clothing Interview
#FashionWeek

Tell us about the line, What is it and how did it start?
-Started By Ryan Cooke In Late 2008, NDK Klothing was brought to the fashion scene first for skaters but then grew out more mainstream to masses and evolved immensly. NDK started just from a vision and a dream, to hardwork and dedication.

What type of people wear NDK?
-Everyone!!! Not just hipsters and skaters, but everyone! I have alot of support and people wearing NDK like Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y, Mac Miller, Big Krit, Boogz Boogetz and more.

There are millions of clothing lines in the world, what makes yours stand out?
-Just being relevant and sticking out with our brand! Alot of brands become content with where they are at and just stick to where they are. If I'm not in school im working on new stuff, or going on tours with most of the artists and bringing boxes of clothes and grinding.

Since the start of this clothing line, what has been your favorite piece? Why?
-If you would ask me which is my favorite, I would say everything because its something that I genuinely liked and printed. When it comes to the followers and TEAM NDK most would say the Varsity Hoodies, and The Signature Cement Hoodies!

NDK has been moving up and becoming more known for a while now, where do you see NDK in 5 years?
-Everywhere, from famous skaters, to great musicians and artist. Also having NDK's first landmark store!

Anything special the clothing line has in the future that you want to share?
-More innovative products and dope collabs!!!

With what you have learned with putting together a line, what advice would you give people that want to start their own?
-Just research as much as you possibly can, then put in the time and dedication to get started. Once you put in the hardwork, the rest will come...

Kreemo is a brand intended for the individual who stands out in society. It is the lifestyle of the person who views and thinks without boundaries. Commonly those who initially attempt to do something diverse are viewed as a nuisance, an annoyance, or an outcast to society. Once they succeed they become a strong influential force. In order to attain significance in the world, one must separate himself from "the average Joe." Taj Interview

Taj Interview
#DirectorsWeek

Tell us about yourself. Whats your name? Where are you from?
-My name is TAJ, and I'm a director from Oakland, CA.

What does the word "based" mean to you?
-SOLID. Official. DOPE. Noteworthy.

How did you get into the directors chair/behind the camera? What inspired you and still inspires you?
-I started out with photography in the Bay area and eventually began working on Music Video sets for some extra cash. From there, I began shoot my own indie videos and eventually got signed to a production company in NYC. I happened pretty fast. I was first inspired by a director named, Anthony Mandler. I was fortunate enough to watch him work and it was an amazing experience. These days, BUILDING anything inspires me. I'm inspired by the challenge.

What upcoming projects are you working on, any particular one special to you or one your excited for?
-I can't talk about up coming projects, but I just did a personal project for Teyana Taylor and I think it's going to touch a lot of people.

Overall, whats your favorite video that you've ever created?
-Hmmmm... that's hard for me to say. I don't really have a favorite, but I did love the energy in Jennifer Lopez's video. But I loved the story in Ne-Yo's video. That's a tough one.

Are there any artists out there you would like to work with, but haven't got the chance yet?
-Yeah... Jay-Z, Kanye, Sade, Madonna, Beyonce... long list.

Besides your own videos, whats a video out right now that really caught your eye?
-I really like Eminem's "Space Bound" video. Great visuals. Great translation of the music.

What is something that people don't know about you?
-That I love helping people. So much so, that I tend to overlook who I'm helping. I love seeing light bulbs go off in people's minds.

Whats some advice you can give the people that want to get behind the camera and into the directors chair?
-The best advice that I was given was to just SHOOT, STUDY, and take risks.
