What's in The Based Update's Mailbox ft. DefamNation Clothing

What's in The Based Update's Mailbox ft. DefamNation Clothing

Oh yes! We got our fifth "What's in The Based Update's Mailbox?" feature! Who dosen't like getting mail, especially when its clothing? Today we got a legit ass package from DefamNation Clothing! Continue below to see what we got and our review!

In the recent release they dropped the Fall/Holiday gear, which they dubbed The Affiliated Collection they used the words, "Embarking alone on a journey to search for something greater. To find closure and to achieve colossal…" That is the uniqueness that attracted me to this line over the last year, with that I got the opportunity to get a hold of them and we put this together! Shout out to Gisel and Bryant!

Packaging:First off, the shipping was priority mail! That is a huge plus because nobody wants to wait for gear to come in! Second, all of the items in the package were all individually wrapped in poly bags! As you can see solid, secure, and quick.

Design: Their designs are excellent. They are crisp and they have that head turning trying to figure out what is going on feel. What I mean by that is... with STEALTH MADE across your chest, or the POLO logo remade as DOLO with a headless man holding a skull in his arm, people will want to know what it means and where they can buy it at.

Quality: DefamNation Clothing is premium quality clothing. All the materials are well fitting as well. Whatever your size, it will fit you correctly. One thing I liked in particular was the crew-neck, the sleeves were not too baggy and the bottom was tighter for a real fit! Some crews are just too baggy, but not these! Another cool part of this line is the branding on the sleeves for extra appeal.

Whats left: My favorite part of all of this are the extra goodies that come along with the gear. In this case we have stickers, a hand towel, pins, coupons, and a lighter... yes a lighter! Not only can you get a discount on you're next purchase, but you can deck out your gear with pins and add stickers to whatever! Defam also adds a branded lighter to this as well, so now you can be lighting up in style too!

Is it Approved?: All the way! DefamNation Clothing has got our thumbs up! As you can see this is a really unique line, make sure get some gear right now!

Final Word

All of this gear and a lot more are available on their website. Their newest Holiday line did just release not too long ago so you can definitely keep warm in new gear for this time of the season in style!

Amerikas Addiction Interview

Amerikas Addiction Interview

Based in Milwaukee, WI, Amerikas Addiction is a two-member group made up of vocalist/emotionalist, Ebonix, and sound/ambiance producer, J The Truth. Amerikas Addiction operates under Black House Productions and draws influces from the hiphop, alternative, punk, reggae, dance, and techno music cultures. The group began as the notorious, “Black House Gang,” which earned them nominations for, “Best Rap/Hi pHop Act,” in 2007 and 2010 by the Wisconsin Area Music Industry. As a solo artist, Ebonix was featured in VIBE Magazine as best Wisconsin rapper for the magazine’s publication of “51 Best Myspace Rappers.”

Tell us about yourself. What’s your name? Where are you from?
J-THE TRUTH - My name is just a combination of my first name Joshua and the fact that I am a Truth seeker. Meaning that I have to know all alternatives and sides to a story, i accept nothing at face value. I need the truth, no matter how painful it may be to know. I am from Milwaukee, though sometimes I feel like a space cadet in the world.

ADDICTION AKA EBONIX - Ebonix was giving as a nick name in high school when I used to rap for people i bent words and used alot of slang lol.
Addiction is because I'm an addictive person, people just get hooked one me, they become intrigued with me as a person therefore addiction lol.

How did you get your start in the music industry? Who or what inspired you?
J-THE TRUTH - I got my start with my brother Tim aka Heru (R.I.P) and his best friend Lee aka Babaloa. They called themselves the Alkhemysts. I was always a beating on the pots and pans and playing records type of kids, but once I got old enough to read The Source and about musicians/record labels, it was over. I became totally immersed in music culture. I have an appreciation for all artists and all careers/functions in it.

ADDICTION - Just recording you know and promoting hard on myspace, I always loved to write and act and express myself artistically no matter if it was drawing or painting or dancing, the older i got the more my vocabulary expanded and i began to write poems to express myself and then all of a sudden i got into writing songs when i was introduced to "J The Truth" my producer at the age of 16 by my dad.

What upcoming projects are you working on?
J-THE TRUTH - Our upcoming video for "Blame It On the Drugs". We plan on it being epic and ground breaking and shocking. We want to the world to see it…and be either addicted or completely pissed off!

ADDICTION - "Black Magick" 12-31-11 one of our biggest projects and most important in my eyes lol. More addicts are listening this time around!

Since the start of your music career what is, in your opinion, the best track you have ever made?
J-THE TRUTH - Addiction or Ebonix would disagree… but I love the track "College Girl" Its a raw, uncut party song. Maybe its because I truly don't party unless we are on stage or are throwing a party that I truly throw all my thoughts to the side. It is during this song that I lose control and let the other side take over my body. The song itself is not deep in a sense, but it speaks upon our primal instincts as men and what we sometimes think when being with a woman…judge me lol. Do What You Desire...

ADDICTION - Best track would have to be a song called "Sandman" Off the Blame it on the Drugs ep avaliable at itunes and our official website www.amerikasaddiction.com and all the other fine digital retails online. That songs is about how i have bad dreams that are constantly keeping me awake but sleep at the same time lol Its tricky because i have this sleeping disorder that haunts me "Sleep Paralysis" It sucks so that song is the anthem for people who have sleeping disorders lol

If you could choose one artist to collaborate with on a track who would it be? Why?
J-THE TRUTH - For me, it would be to have met an artist like Jimi Hendrix when he was around. He was beyond creative and innovative. He inspired generations of musicians. His style of playing the guitar, his way of singing and song writing and his fashion, actually his whole style is inspiring. I would have loved to collaborate on a track with him and just be privileged to have been in the same room.

ADDICTION - Tech N9ne.. He is just beyond creative and always ahead of the curve, not only as a rapper just as an artist period. He is my idol and I've met him before but I've never got a chance to tell him, didnt wanna seem like a dick riding fan. I'd rather meet him on an artist to artist basis.

This site’s purpose is living and representing the Based lifestyle. What does the word "based" mean to you?
J-THE TRUTH - It is the same is ours - "Do What You Desire…" - Doing what you want to do in life. Hopefully what you desire to do is positive, because in its sense, it is a double edged sword or a feather…what you choose to do with it, is in your soul/heart. We choose positivity. Based is about doing what you desire and expressing yourself creatively whether in music, fashion, life and how you touch others that you meet. If the whole world were based, it would be a much more beautiful world.

ADDICTION - Based To me is similar to our motto which is "Do what you desire.. Basically doing what you love and spreading love ignoring the negative and evils in the world. So yeah thats what based means to me.

Who are your favorite artists right now? Who’s playing through your speakers?
J-THE TRUTH - Tech N9ne, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, LEP Bogus Boys, The Weeknd, 2-Pac, Kanye West and Sade.

ADDICTION - Tech n9ne, Cudi, Wiz Khalifa, Prince, Ozzy Osbourne, Soulja Boy and Lady Gaga.

What’s something that people might not know about you?
J-THE TRUTH - That I really enjoy to read. Magazines, books on esoteric subjects, books on visionaries, leaders, inspirational books. Yeah, I like to listen and read Tony Robbins lol.

ADDICTION - Im obsessed with Lady Gaga

What’s some advice you can give to upcoming/aspiring artists that you have learned so far that may come in handy to someone else?
J-THE TRUTH - Do What You Desire…and all will work out. Dare to be different as well. Pay it forward and don't look for handouts.

ADDICTION - Stay true to yourself and find your own lane. develop a grass roots fan base so you can be a dictator and not a dick taker and labels will approach you.

Where can people find more about you?

Fuggin' Friday #10

Fuggin' Friday #10

Here is the tenth Fuggin' Friday feature. Enjoy! If you don't know what a Fuggin' Friday post is, check out all the info here.

Hall of Fame 2011 Holiday “Upside Downs” Collection

With the pending 2011-2012 NBA season teetering on destruction, many of us are looking for other sources of basketball exposure just to keep us from going completely cold turkey. Some have turned to video games and others college basketball, but what is still very much alive is the apparel industry. Many are still wearing their favorite team or player logo, which in a way showcases their support during the looming legal battle. Today, Mitchell & Ness, in conjunction with retail boutique Hall of Fame, announced the release of delivery 1 of 2 for their Holiday 2011 seasonal collection, consisting of five retro-styled fitteds. Sporting an upside-down logo from the ’90s, the above caps, representing the Heat, Hornets, Spurs, Lakers and Mavericks, will retail this Friday, the 25th, at Hall of Fame’s flagship store in Los Angeles.

Nike Zoom KD IV “Nerf” Further Look

Many of our readers can remember a time counting down, 3, 2, 1, then heaving up a prayer hook shot from the top bunk with a foam, fist size basketball at a door mounted cardboard hoop. With that said, when we featured the KD IV Nerf edition last month we can bet many readers felt a heavy bit of nostalgia for the kicks. Today we offer a more detailed look at one of the more hyped releases of the “lets not talk about it” 2011-2012 NBA season, featuring a one-of-a-kind packaging housing a Nerf basketball, hoop and sneaker set. Unfortunately little information accompanied the pack, but be on the lookout, as rumor has it you can expect this release to hit select retailers in limited numbers sometime before Christmas.

What's in The Based Update's Mailbox ft. ArtistiCreation Clothing

What's in The Based Update's Mailbox ft. ArtistiCreation Clothing

Oh yes! We got our fourth "What's in The Based Update's Mailbox?" feature! Who dosen't like getting mail, especially when its clothing? Today we got a sick package from ArtistiCreation Clothing! Continue below to see what we got and our review!

When it comes to this clothing line, I came across the line on Karmaloop just surfing to find some new gear, fueling my addiction. When I came across the gear, it popped out at me. They have taken the well known BOO character from Mario and transformed it into many different things, such as a grenade for example. I was able to get a hold of the line and they were down for a review so we made it happen! Shout out to Artisti!

Packaging: ArtistiCreation is very busy this time of year so they sent me a makeshift package. This is not their normal packaging so I thought it may not be the best, but the packaging was still very good; compact and secure! The shipping was also priority mail which is always a plus because nobody wants to wait for gear to come in! Even more, all of the items in the package were all individually wrapped in poly bags! So now you know, packaging and shipment from ArtistiCreation will never be a problem and.. it will be even better than this!!

Design: As I stated before: they have taken the well known BOO character from Mario and transformed it into many different things. In this case a grenade and a "sextacy-pill." Their designs are greatly printed, bright, and attractive. You will not have a problem putting together a great fit with their clothes.

Quality: ArtistiCreation Clothing is high quality clothing. All the materials are heavy, thick, and perfectly fitting. To add on that perfect fit, I am a size Large myself, I have had many sites call something "Large" that really is almost an XL and mediums that basically Large's. These clothes fit perfectly which is something that a lot of lines fall short of, but not here!

Whats left: In this case there were no goodies, but goodies are not a necessity, they are not always needed. The clothes speak for themselves!

Is it Approved?: YES! YES! It's got our thumbs up of approval. As you can see this is a really solid line, make sure to go and cop some gear from them.

Final Word

All of this gear and many many more items are on their website so get on it! Also, there are even more designs that are not on their website that are available for purchase on Kazbah's side of Karmaloop. Bookmark their store and stay updated!

Fuggin' Friday #9

Here is the ninth Fuggin' Friday feature. Enjoy! If you don't know what a Fuggin' Friday post is, check out all the info here.

Black Scale: Black Box Project

Shrouded in mystery, Black Scale’s “Black Box Project” teaser video seems to play on the voyeuristic nature that is inside all of us. While the teaser does little to place some clarity to the campaign, it does create a sense of intrigue as to what’s to come next. Further research reveals a promotion from Black Scale that is all about rewarding their valued consumers, whereas the “black boxes” will actually be a giveaway ranging from $50-500 USD worth of material. Stay tuned for more details.

Behind the Lens with Jason Goldwatch

The landscape of the music game has taken on a new breed of creatives over the years – musicians, producers, video directors. You listen to your go-to artists of choice and realize the sounds have taken a route somewhat off course from its respective music styles, yet approaches a hybrid crossroad of sounds that inspire from different musical genres and elements beyond the musical world. This is the new generation of ideas and visions, when artists take on no formality or predetermined labels – it’s nonconforming and quintessential of the saying “thinking outside the box.” This is this “new school” of director Jason Goldwatch as he gives us some background on some of his latest works. Click here to read the rest of the post!

Time Lapse View From Space

This mesmerizing time-lapse video features sequences of photographs taken with a low-light camera by the space crew that occupied the International Space Station from August to October 2011. Edited by Michael König, with music by Jan Jelinek, all images were taken courtesy of NASA’s Image Science and Analysis Laboratory. Through this piece, we’re able to sneak a glimpse at our world in a way that we’ve rarely been able to see before, showing the world in all of its glory in a short span of five minutes.

-You can call me Two 8ight, I'm from South Berkeley! 2800 KRAKK ST to be exact.

Throwback Thursday #9

Throwback Thursday #9

We got another weekly throwback video. This video "The Statement" by Wiz Khalifa came out about a year ago along with his mixtape Kush & OJ.

As stated on Datpiff: On April 14, Wiz Khalifa took over the Internet. Unfamiliar Twitter users scratched their noggins upon seeing the seemingly esoteric phrase "Kush & OJ" listed in their trending topic sidebar. Even Google fell victim to the Pittsburgh rapper's rabid demand—all for a mixtape. The project was more than unwarranted hype, though. Dipping into unconventional wells of inspiration, the Taylor gang leader swiped Demi Lovato's "Our Time Is Here" from Disney's Camp Rock soundtrack for the psychedelic anthem "We're Done"; elsewhere Frou Frou’s “Let Go” is, uh, lifted, for "In The Cut." He flexes his vocals here and there ("Up") and even tries his hand at reggae ("Still Blazin"). Can we get much higher?

I am not sure if you have seen this video or not, but it's hilarious. Its about Swag Syndrome; I am sure you have seen all the symptoms mentioned in this video as well on some level or another. Also, in the video they claim they do not know where the 'cookin' dance came from, the answer as we knew is Lil B.

Bruno Mars New Video "It Will Rain"

Check out Bruno Mars new video "It Will Rain" which will be featured in the new Twilight movie coming out next week. This song has been one of my favorites since I first heard it. Bruno Mars is not the original writer nor is it originally his song, but the way he did it was better than the first in my opinion! This is available on iTunes so get it if you don't have it! Enjoy!

Drake's "Take Care" Album

I am sure as most of you know this album was leaked before it actually dropped like it seems every album does. If you didn't get your hand on it you need to!

After listening to the entire album, it definitely is some real good work from Drake. Everything that he represents is on this album is what he is as an artist so its a real good blend. I have heard people talking about how this album isn't good and I don't see what they are talking about.

Toykio x Nike Sportswear Destroyer Jacket

One of the most coveted outerwear pieces over the past couple of years has been Nike’s Destroyer Jacket. Many influential individuals have had the privilege of NSW providing them with their own, unique rendition, but here we highlight the Toykio Destroyer, which will be awarded to a select number of friends and personal heroes of the toy/creative collective. However, on November 15, blank versions of the jacket will be available in differing styles and colors, via numerous stores throughout Germany and Austria including HHV, N/GH, asphaltgold, theflashgib, cream (by coarse) and STIL-LADEN.

Throwback Thursday #8

We got a based throwback this week. This video "Trees" features O.T and Young Scott from Young Squad. These two along with Lil B, Young L, Boi, and Lil Go made up at the time a group called *SS* If you have been around the based movement for a while you know this song, if not enjoy it.

Since the release of this song and a few others that were put on *SS* Mixtape Vol. 2 we have not seen any music between all of them in a movement towards a possible Vol. 3 Mixtape. It's safe to say that while *SS* still remains, there will be no more music due to the fact that the solo game has taken over.

Urban Cutz Interview

Urban Cutz Interview

We got an interview in with a fresh clothing store and haircut salon right out of the Bay Area. Urban Cutz is located in Pleasant Hill, California and they bring the uniqueness of being able to get a fresh cut and fit at the exact same place. Continue here reading and learning about Urban Cutz!

Tell us about your company. What’s the name? How did it come to be?
-We came together as a group of friends and opened Urban Cutz Barbershop & Clothing. When you getting ready for the weekend you always gotta get a fresh haircut and pick up a new fit for the club which is where our inspiration came from, its the best of both worlds.

Where are you located?
-Pleasant Hill Ca

How did you come up with the name for the store?
-We were looking for a name that really spoke to everybody and The word Urban is something everything can relate to and be whats cool, whats hot. Urban can be any culture or race and its a word that defines us all.

What brand(s) or item(s) can we find in your store?
-G-shock, Creative Recreation, Play Cloths, Rock Smith, Pink Dolphin, DTA, Fuld watches and this Holiday we will be getting Billionare Boyz Club.

Fashion is a revolving trend, what keeps your company ahead of the game?
-Hip Hop Culture is a huge influence for us and we are always looking at Artists, Music Videos and what kids on the street are wearing. Wiz Khalifa and Tyga are two big names that we have seen change the fashion game. “Snapbacks Back” But even that is slowly dying down so we always have our eyes and ears open for what New. One Bay Area brand movement we really like is the Shmop Life. There whole movement is real authentic and fun and thats something that we can appreciate.

What is your description of a ‘perfect fit’? Can customers find that in your store?
-Yea have the right shoes right hat just matching from top to bottom. When we place our order we make sure that our different brands are all color coordinating and can be matched with each other. We really try to embody the term Urban Fresh with a upscale vibe.

Who are your influences?
-Music wise we really like Tyga, Chris brown, Lil wayne they are always trendsetting instead of following trends “Rack City.”

Are there any challenges that you have ran into while running your business?
-Just the process of growing we started out really small and every month every season we get bigger and listen to what our customers want and need. Some brands can definitely lag with shipping orders, no names lol.

Anything special coming up with your company that we can look forward to?
-Expanding we hope to open another store hopefully by the beginning of next year and were working on our online store getting that right at Get Your Fit Right. Also we are always looking for independent clothing brands and designers to hit us up becuase we would love to carry them!

Where can people find more about your company?
-FaceBook, Official Website, Get Your Fit Right

Fuggin' Friday #7

Fuggin' Friday #7

Here is the seventh Fuggin' Friday feature. Enjoy! If you don't know what a Fuggin' Friday post is, check out all the info here.

Wale's Ablum Ambition and New Video "Bait"

Wale's new album "Ambition" has been under a lot of controversy. I say controversy because I have heard and read a lot of reviews talking about how bad this album is and how great it is also which is confusing a lot of people out there. I have listened to the entire album myself and I can see the highs and the lows, but I honestly do not feel it's a bad, but I can't say it's great either. You will honestly have to listen to it yourself to create your own feeling on what Wale is doing and then decide if you like it or not. There are some highlights to this album, but a lot of the tracks feel and sound the same. The features on the album include: Miguel and Lloyd, his boss, Rick Ross along with Big Sean and Kid CuDi.

Lexus CT200h Five Axis Project

While a large conglomerate of automobile aficionados are currently gathered out in the desert for this year’s annual SEMA Show, Lexus, in conjunction with Five Axis, present the Lexus CT200h Five Axis Project. The CT200h represents the most compact of this summer’s Lexus models, while still highlighting the accustomed wide body frame, especially at the rear. And if the overall sleek design and low-profile kit doesn’t do it for you, the interior embodies an expected after-market appeal, while still obtaining a high-standard luxury aesthetic. Expect to see and hear more regarding the Lexus CT200h Five Axis Project as SEMA Show 2011 nears completion.

Justin Bieber really did kill this track. Don't you think so? I was as surprised as you probably are right now!
