Tell us about yourself. Whats your name? Where are you from?-My names balance I'm a upcoming MC repping the bay area. I was born in Oakland raised in Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco.
What does the word "based" mean to you?
-I feel like "based" is a movement my brothers lil b and the pack started. its a youth movement meaning "i don't give a fuck I'ma be me". so i feel like I'm "based" too. i do me and my music and i don't care what anyone thinks "ima be me"
How did you get into the music industry? What inspired you?
- I kinda got forced into it. in high school i had friends who started a rap group and they said "u wanna be in it?". i said "cool" rap gave me something to do when i wasn't in class or at sports practice. as i got more and more into it. people started saying "man u dope u can do this". so i jus ran with it. and here i am. i was inspired by jay-z, drake, nas, dr dre, snoop, etc. and all the bay area greats: e-40, too short, 3 times, luniz.
What upcoming projects are you working on?
-I'm finishing up a compilation called "golden state warriorz 2". features my favorite artists from the west coast. i got everybody on it - that drops November. I'm also working on a new mix CD wit DJ faze where I'm flippin old school west coast jointz and making them new. Finally working on my second solo album called "exit" that i will drop in January.
Are there any artists out there you would like to work with, but haven't got the chance yet?
- I wanna work wit drake, kanye, dr dre. As far as west coast I kinda worked with every one. I'm blessed. as far as producers id like to work with tha bizzness, boy1der, the justice league.
Who are your favorite artists right now?
-I'ma try not to say the obvious all stars. ill say I'm listening to phonte from little brother he is a beast. I like Lil b new mix CD - thats my lil homie - he pushing. i like kendrick lamar new CD. Favorite artists: drake, kanye, jay-z and im waiting on dr dre to drop his detox.
What are some things that people don't know about you?
-people don't know that I'm working on 2 movie scripts right now. 1 is a horror film the other is a comedy. I got a degree in screen writing from San Francisco state university. So that's 2 things they don't know one more is ....hmmmm.... oh I'm a ghost writer for hire so u may have heard sum of my verses lol
Whats some advice you can give the people that want to get into the music industry?
- I would say get a day job. reason: so u can have $ to make things happen. the more $ u have the quicker u can make things happen and now everything in this game is about speed. i would also say record as much music as possible, don't rush your music take time and make it as good as possible. Work on your craft. Invest in yourself and your craft. Get your music mixed. Listen to all music - the pioneers and the new artists. u can learn from both.
