Benny Gold 2012 Fall New Releases
San Francisco-based Benny Gold presents the first look at a few of the label’s upcoming projects for Fall 2012. Adding to its popular range of Native 5-Panel caps and socks, the brand will soon be introducing turquoise colorways of the Aztec-inspired prints. Also, as the Bay Area celebrates the 75th anniversary of its most iconic landmark, the Golden Gate Bridge, Gold has created special edition 1937 Sunglasses that pair a gradient frame with mirrored blue lenses. Expect all three pieces to become available in the near future with the turquoise Native cap and socks available exclusively through Karmaloop and via Benny Gold’s San Francisco storefront.
Weta Workshop Sends Valve a Life-Sized Half-Life Portal Turret
Valve was recently the happy recipient of a life-size Portal Turret courtesy of New Zealand-based Weta Workshop. Best known for its work bringing entertainment and creative projects to life such as the Warthogs from Halo, the company most recently looked to the Half-Life universe for their latest work. Instantly recognizable to fans of Valve titles Half-Life and Portal, the Portal Turret is a full-scale, articulated turret complete with motion sensor. We can’t wait to see what the workshop comes up with next.
HIGH TIMES x HUF 2012 Fall Capsule Collection
They say birds of a feather flock together, and that was certainly the case with HUF‘s latest collaboration with HIGH TIMES. Stemming from both camps’ deep appreciation for ‘greenery,’ a special pack consisting of 11 items was crafted. Items include an assortment of apparel such as snapbacks, T-shirts, a bucket hat, a hoodie, and a special hemp blended version of the popular “Plantlife” socks. Also included is a special rendition of HUF’s Hupper trainer, featuring HIGH TIMES embroidery, upper hemp construction, and a secret stash pocket within the tongue. Accessories were not missed as the collection also sees collaborative pins, lighters and stickers. Dropping on September 28, the capsule will be made available online through HUF and sold at select retailers worldwide. It should be noted that the collection is limited to 420 pieces and that a special release party will be held on October 5 at the Lexington Social Club in Los Angeles.
Nixon The 51-30 “Rubber” & “Tide”
Although Nixon has expanded its offering to encompass everything from apparel and bags to headphones and sportswear gear, the label always seems to shine within its timepiece segment. After the Southern California lifestyle outfitter gave us a glimpse into its military-geared “The Rover” releases, today brings a glimpse into two of its tonal grey-on-grey releases via the slightly oversized The 51-30. Branded as the “Rubber” and the “Tide,” the aptly titled pair of watches boast a similarly subdued grey tonal aesthetic, while the Rubber features a solid rubber construction, metal hardware and hits of contrasting orange hues. The “Tide” sees a unique gunmetal construction with a complementary muted grey face as well as hits of orange and glow through the hour and minutes hands and notches. Those in the market can find availability through select Nixon timepiece stockists as well as directly through the Nixon online store.
