Iamsu Interview

Iamsu Interview
#ArtistWeek

Tell us about yourself. Whats your name? Where are you from?
-Iamsu!, from Richmond, California

What does the word "based" mean to you? and if you didn't know what it meant until now what do you think of it?
-The word based means a lot of things to me, it means being original, being innovative, being positive, just something that represents being yourself and being unapologetic.

How did you get your start in the music industry? What or who inspired you?
-I started off producing for the Diligentz when I was 16. I produced for a lot of local acts around the bay then I decided to do my solo artist thing. My biggest inspiration would have to be Kanye West. His first album really inspired me to go as far as I can musically.

What upcoming projects are you working on? Any videos or something special coming up?
-I’m working on the Deluxe edition of my latest mix tape “Young California” that should be on I tunes in the next few weeks. I’m also attempting to shoot 100 videos within the summer so lets see how that goes.

Are there any artists out there you would like to have the chance to work with? If so who?
-Definitely Pharrell, Jay-Z those are the first names that come to mind but I want to work with everyone.

Who are your favorite artists right now? Who's playing through your speakers?
-My favorite artist right now is probably Big Sean or YG. Big Sean but hes insane lyrically and YG makes hella fun party music. I slap hella Lil B too

What are some things that people might not know about you?
-I’ve never eaten a burger in my life. I’m scared of roller coasters but wanted to be a roller coaster designer when I was 12.

Whats some advice you can give to everyone that you have learned so far in your journey that could come in handy to someone else?
-Persistence is key, also how quick your turnaround is. Procrastination is a killer and the worst when your trying to be a musician.

Where can people find more about you?
-On my YouTube channel my Tumblr and Twitter.
