Fuggin' Friday #18

Fuggin' Friday #18

Here is the eighteenth Fuggin' Friday feature. Enjoy! If you don't know what a Fuggin' Friday post is, check out all the info here.

Metropolis II Museum of Art

Metropolis II is a 20-by-30-foot kinetic installation modeled by Chris Burden after its namesake. The labyrinthine structure is an artfully woven maze of roads housing an endless procession of more than a thousand tiny cars and trains. The remarkable thing about the 18-road system, more than its six-lane freeway, is the fact that it is strategically designed to propel the multitude of miniature cars in an endless and effortless circuit. The only motorization in the structure involves magnets pulling the cars up a conveyor belt to its high point before letting gravity take over. Producing a scale speed of 240 miles per hour in its miniatures, Metropolis II makes a compelling argument for Burden’s dream of a fully-automated automotive Arcadia.

Wikipedia Anti-SOPA Blackout

Following the recent announcement that it was joining the ranks of protesters in the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) battle, Wikipedia officially began a 24-hour online blackout at the stroke of midnight East Coast United States time on January 18. This move aligns the largest online encyclopedia with a host of opposition to the SOPA and PIPA legislation, who believe that the legislation, if passed, would infringe upon the free exchange of information that many value. The bill would permit the Justice Department of the United States and content owners the ability to seek a court order that would require search engines to block certain results that are associated with pirated material. The protest has understandably garnished hardened opinions on both sides of the spectrum, with Wikipedia’s actions positioning it as one of the more notably outspoken and extreme measures in protest. Let your voice be heard in opposition of the movement, join the petition to prevent SOPA today.

Derrik Rose: 2.5 Review

Reigning MVP Derrick Rose is set to release his fourth signature adidas sneaker. Unveiled today, the adiZero Rose 2.5 takes inspiration from both the Crazy Light and adiZero Rose 2, coupling the Crazy Light’s outsole traction system with SPRINTWEB and SPRINTFRAME technologies for optimal grip, added stability and weight reduction. Additionally, a GEOFIT memory foam collar provides added comfort and an improved fit. As a tribute to D-Rose’s hometown, satellite imagery of his former Chicago Englewood neighborhood is embossed on the upper while additional details like Rose’s signature, “ROSE” branding and jersey number “1″ are found throughout. Finally, to pay homage to the plethora of fan reviews that land on the net, Rose himself has completed a video review of his own signature kicks. Weighing in at only 11 ounces, the adiZero Rose 2.5 is set to drop in home and away colorways on February 2 at Foot Locker, Eastbay and shopadidas.com for $110 USD.
