VergiLuv Interview

Tell us about yourself. What’s your name? Where are you from?
Well my artist name is VergiLuv and I'm originally from Astoria , Queens, New York, NY.
How did you get your start in the music industry? Who or what inspired you?
As for my "start" in the music business I would have to say it started when I worked in the Research department at Hot 97FM in New York when I was still in High School. I was around some great DJ's and I felt like that was/is a "Hip Hop" music staple for New Yorkers and the world really. I then got an internship at an indie Latin label called RMM Records. I eventually did get a part time position there while in school and ended up working as a production assistant at some Salsa concerts that they would have at Madison Square Garden. I would say looking back now it was a "magical" moment in time for me. It was my first real exposure to the Latin music world. I was working in close proximity with artists such as Celia Cruz, Tito Puente and Marc Anthony. I learned a lot about the "business" side of the music industry from working there. Being around legends like Celia Cruz & Tito Puente was a moment in time I will never forget. I always knew though that I wanted to be a performer so I was always choreographing or dancing with RMM artists as well as local artists. Pursuing my passion to dance eventually led me to a career as a dancer touring and working in music videos with such artists as Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Prince, Jay-Z & the late Whitney Houston.
What upcoming projects are you working on?
Currently, I am writing and working on new songs. As well as producing original film content. I have been writing a lot lately. Short stories that I would like to eventually put on film one day.
Since the start of your music career what is, in your opinion, the best track you have ever made?
That's a hard one. I would say all of the songs I’ve written and worked on, even when I was younger, all hold a special place for me. Even the stuff that I think isn’t that great. It's almost like a soundtrack to where I have been and where I am going. I would say as for right now, I just co-wrote a song with a friend and that seems to be the one that is most exciting to me since it's not done yet. The process of writing and creating for me is so thrilling because I don't really know what's going to come out but once it’s done it gives me a certain sense of accomplishment. But of course, “Come Dance With Me” is a fave since it’s my latest single.
If you could choose one artist to collaborate with on a track who would it be? Why?
That's a loaded question. Because I think it would be hard to just pick "one" artist. I would love to work with Calvin Harris, Avicii or Kaskade. I could easily choose one artist from each genre of music. But ultimately I think for me Jamiroquai is a band I would love to work with. I think I have every one of their albums. Their music is timeless to me.
This site’s purpose is living and representing the Based lifestyle. What does the word "based" mean to you?
I've always been the kind of person to make my own lane so to speak. So I'm ALL about being able to express myself the way I want to without anyone telling me otherwise. If I do come across someone that tells me I "can't" I'm the type of person that likes to show that I CAN. In a positive way. Not really to them.. But just to myself. It’s a way to validate that I CAN do it even if I fail at it. I can at least say I put my best foot forward. I do my best to not create a space of competition or negativity towards myself or others. I don't think anyone has the right to tell anyone else that they "can't" do something.. We are all capable of creating and manifesting our own reality… Wish more people actually believed in that way of thinking.
Who are your favorite artists right now? Who’s playing through your speakers?
Currently, I’ve been listening to new material from my producers in Germany, Bounce Bro & Crystal Rock. I generally listen to ALL kinds of music. Everything from Celia Cruz to indie bands like Dragonette. I'll listen to German Electro Rap groups like Seaside Clubbers then switch up and listen to Foster The People. I've ALWAS LUVed house and electronic music and I LUV free downloads. So, I like to find "new music" by trolling different music blogs like Europopped & Bingo Balls.. Lately, it’s been spanning from Swiss DJ Remady to Kaskade , Calvin Harris, and one of my favorite artists from Sweden, Robyn. I recently just downloaded Kasakde’s set from Coachella
. What’s something that people might not know about you?
I can tend to be very impatient and am a perfectionist in everything I do. Sometimes to a fault.
What’s some advice you can give to upcoming/aspiring artists that you have learned so far that may come in handy to someone else?
Honestly, the best thing I can say is stay true to what it is you want out of life NO MATTER what anyone tells you. There should be a drive and fire inside of you that drives you to what it is you want out of life. Follow that desire and go after it from a genuine and real place. I think integrity is an important attribute to have. Most people think that in this business you have to be a “certain way.” And in all reality just be yourself because it gets you farther in your career and in LIFE. Most people I have met in this business that are successful actually like working with nice , genuine, down to Earth people. I don’t know why there seems to be a certain mystique about that but to me that’s been my experience.
Where can people find more about you?
They can find more info on me at my Website, on Twitter or on Facebook
