Mac Miller Gives A Tour Of Pittsburgh's Blue Slide Park

Mac Miller Gives A Tour Of Pittsburgh's Blue Slide Park

Blue Slide Park may be immediately recognizable as the name of Mac Miller's debut album, and during a recent trip to his hometown, Pittsburgh, the young rapper gave MTV News a tour of the park that inspired his LP.

After releasing his 2010 mixtape K.I.D.S., Miller set out and toured the world, spending more and more time away from home. It was that time away that inspired the name for Mac's debut album, Blue Slide Park. Named after his favorite childhood hangout, Mac aimed to shine the spotlight on his city. After months of touring in 2011, the "Knock, Knock" MC invited MTV News to come out to a pair of homecoming shows back in December and gave us a tour of the 'Burgh, starting, of course, with Blue Slide Park, a playground tucked inside the much-larger Frick Park.

"Welcome to the world-famous Blue Slide Park," Mac told MTV News, acting as our tour guide.

If you aren't from the 'Burgh, chances are you didn't quite catch the significance of BSP's opening track, "English Lane," but after a trip to the real-life playground, it all starts to make sense. "I was literally walking to Blue Slide Park and the album was almost done and I was walking to get some last-minute inspiration," Mac said, explaining how the park's adjacent street became the title for the #1 LP's first song. "I walked by and was like, 'English Lane would be an ill title for a song, that's how I wanna open the album ,with a song called 'English Lane,' ' because that's how you walk up to Blue Slide Park."

Granted, some of the scenery has changed, for instance, the slide isn't quite as blue these days. "When I announced that I was coming out with an album called Blue Slide Park, some vandalizing kids dumped a bucket of red paint down the slide," the 20-year old rapper said with some disappointment.

Still, while walking through the famed playground and its surrounding area, the memories began to mount for Mac. There were his baseball days at Stan Lederman Field and the make-out sessions that followed his little league victories. "I was into girls in the fifth grade," Mac said while showing off a low-key cove where he'd take his junior high school honeys.

Now, when the breakout rap star returns to his old stomping grounds, word spreads quickly as fans flock to the neighborhood hangout in hopes for an autograph or a picture with Miller. Still, it all provides a certain comfort. Back in July, after Mac first announced the album's title, he explained what it all meant to MTV News.

"No matter what happens in life, no matter where you go, where you're off to, what happens with the park, that slide will always be blue. That will always be Blue Slide Park no matter what," he said. "You can go to New York and live for 10 years and become a huge business mogul and then come back to the 'Burgh and no matter how much money you got, that slide is still blue."

Barring any vandals, of course.

What's in The Based Update's Mailbox ft. Twisted Tradition Clothing

What's in The Based Update's Mailbox ft. Twisted Tradition Clothing

Oh yes! We got tenth tenth, YES the tenth "What's in The Based Update's Mailbox?" feature! Who dosen't like getting mail, especially when its clothing? Today we got a great package from Twisted Tradition Clothing! Continue below to check out the official review!

Twisted Tradition Clothing was a brand that I actually had heard of and seen before because it was sold at Filthy Dripped, and every time I was there something from this line caught my attention. As soon as I got the word that I was going to have a review with Twisted on the site I was extra-ready! The other cool thing when it comes to a background with the line is that even though they were established in 2009 the clothes say 1881 because they believe that they were 100 years before they were suppose to be here.

Packaging:This line's shipping was not through the normal mail, but with FedEX! That is more legit than other lines because its through a express package only carrier which will be personally delivered to your door.

Design: The designs are both simple and very advanced while still being very bright, attractive, and stylish. You can see the simplicity in the traditional crewneck and shirt with the line's name printed on them. Then, clearly, you can see the extremely attractive and advanced design in the Indian design! Instantly the tee and the crewneck with the Indian on them became one of my favorites in my own collection. These are featured in the 2012 Spring Line which has more designs like these in them.

Quality: Lets go piece by piece in the package. To start it lets go with the crewnecks, they are premium meaning that they are warm, soft, and solid along with the fact that the printing on them are perfect. With that, the crewnecks and tees have printed on the sleeves with the EST. 1881 mark. Now the shirts, the shirts are both extra solid and smooth, they also fit great to the size they are marked as. As you can see they are customarily tagged as well.

Whats left: There were no accessories in this package. This of course is not a problem because you have all the fit you need with the gear alone!

Is it Approved?: Yes it is! Two thumbs Up! As you can see the clothes are not just up to today's par in the fashion world, its more than that. Beyond that the clothes are printed right & fit right. Please go and check out the site and get yourself something! Would you really not rock any of these? I doubt it!

Final Word

Some of this gear is available now here! If you live in the Bay Area you can also get whats on the site and more at Filthy Dripped in the Hilltop Mall in Richmond. Make sure to keep up with Twisted Tradition on Twitter. From this point forward all their updates will be posted on this site as well. Twist yourself around that!

Cassandra Walker "Based Beauties"

Cassandra Walker "Based Beauties"

Name: Cassandra Marie Walker
Nationality: German, French, English
Measurements: Chest (32) Cup (DD) Waist (25.5) Hips (33)
Website(s): Twitter, Facebook Fanpage

Tell us about yourself. What’s your name? Where are you from?
- My name is Cassandra, and I’m from New York!

How did you get involved with modeling? How long have you been doing it for?
- I actually became involved with modeling from a friend, she asked me to go along with her to a photoshoot and I realized my love for it, and it’s been a passion of mine for the past 4 years.

What is your favorite part about modeling? What is your least favorite part?
- There are a few parts I adore about modeling, I love to travel so being able to meet so many incredible people and see new places is wonderful. I also love the feelings of being able to express yourself through a simple photo and create a story, it’s a freeing feeling. My least favorite part is just not being able to always share the great experiences I have with friends and family, I’d love for them to be able to enjoy my adventures too!

What has been the highlight so far of your modeling career?
- I’d have to say one of the greatest moments of my modeling career was when I was on stage at the Playboy Mansion and had to speak in front of all the guests! It most definitely was a huge feeling of accomplishment and the best part was that some of my friends and family were there!

Being a model, and noticing what people like about you, what part of your body would you say attracts the most attention?
- Other than the usual curves that catches the eye, I’d have to say my hair. I’ve always had big long hair and I have received a lot of compliments!

If you could choose one person to have a photo shoot with, who would it be? Why?
- Honestly, there are so many people I’d love to have the opportunity to shoot with but even better, I’d LOVE to shoot with an exotic animal like a tiger or jaguar. I think it would be absolutely incredible!

If you had the option to model for any brand in the world, what brand would it be? Why?
- One of my ultimate goals is to try and reach some world known brands but if it were a dream come true, I’ve love to model for Victoria Secrets. I feel to be an Angel is a huge compliment and an ultimate modeling dream.

What is something that people don’t know about you?
- I actually have a passion for art, I love to draw, and I think quite well.

What is the worst and best thing anybody has tried to do to get your attention?
- The worst thing someone has done to get my attention would have to be a guy that I hadn’t talked to and refused to talk to told me our mutual friend had passed away and come to find out he was alive and happy. The best thing anyone has done was my ex-boyfriend had bought me my own star in the sky, ironically my star is in the constellation of Cassiopeia!

What do you think of the word “based” and what it represents?
- I think it should define everyone there will always be someone who doesn’t agree with what you do, what you love, and where you want to be but the true happiness in life, is being happy with yourself.

What words of advice would you give to all the young girls out there aspiring to be models?
- If your heart is in it, you can accomplish anything you dream of and all the road bumps along the way, will only make you stronger and you will feel that much more successful when you’ve reached your dreams. Never give up!

Where can we find and learn more about you?
- I have a Fan page on Facebook that I’m very proud of and I’m always updating, working on having my own website soon!

Jordan Spizike "Bordeaux"

After teasing the public about the release of the Jordan Spizike “Bordeaux” with Spike Lee’s gifting of a pair to U.S. President Barack Obama, Jordan Brand officially announces the visuals and release date for the latest rendition. Featuring the customary cement/elephant print on the toe box and reverse heel, the pair emboldens its understated Neutral Grey base with strong hits of Varsity Maize, Laser Blue and Varsity Red throughout. Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport

Dubbed the “Bumblebee” of Veyrons, this very yellow 16.4 Grand Sport special edition of the French Bugatti Veyron was unveiled at the Qatar Motor Show recently. Allegedly the favorite color combination of founder Ettore Bugatti, the yellow/black carbon fibered ride is no doubt creating a buzz on the streets given its expected exclusivity, build, aesthetics and price tag. Boasting a top speed of 407 km/h and 350 km/h with its roof up or down respectively, the Veyron stakes its claim to a hefty price tag of $1.58 million EUR (approx. $2.06 million USD) compared to $1.4 million EUR (approx. $1.82 million USD) for the standard version. Limited to a manufacturing run of only 150 units, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport is not only a sight for sore eyes but likely to become a coveted automobile of car collectors due to its limited status.

What's in The Based Update's Mailbox ft. Cloud IX Creative MindsClothing

What's in The Based Update's Mailbox ft. Cloud IX Creative Minds Clothing

Oh yes! We got our ninth "What's in The Based Update's Mailbox?" feature! Once again, tell me who dosen't like getting mail, especially when its clothing? Today we got a swag-ish package from Cloud IX Creative Minds Clothing! Also right now when you purchase clothes use the code: THEBASEDUPDATE to get free shipping!

Cloud IX Creative Minds (CIXCM) consists of a team of individuals who dare to dream out loud. Have you ever felt so inspired by an idea that your mind feels overwhelmed with a strong sense of what could be, to the point where you catch yourself with your head in the clouds, day dreaming? Our goal at CIXCM is to release exclusive, cutting edge designs that represent the dreams, visions and ideas of those inspired to live life to the fullest physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Packaging:This line's shipping was express! That is a huge positive because who wants to wait for anything? The second positive aspect was that every single item was was individually wrapped in poly bags that even had a seal on them making it not only more professional but extra secure and brand new.

Design: The designs are clean cut and eye catching while still not being too much. For example, take the CIX Pocket Crewneck. The simplicity of just a couple letters group together is pretty damn cool and it doesn't do too much. The eye catching part can be seen through the Dreamville Tee, which you can see clearly for yourself! Last, the Cali Raised Tee finishes off as a must need if you live in California!

Quality: Lets go piece by piece... To start off lets go with the crewneck, there is nothing wrong with it. The material is premium, the printing is perfect, it's soft and it's warm. Now, before you cop one you might want to order a size down depending on you're height. For example, I'm 6 feet tall and the medium is perfect. Now the shirts, the shirts are both solid and smooth, and they fit great to the size they are shown as.

Whats left: With each item you get a sticker. Stickers are the best in my opinion to finish off the package. Take the stickers and deck out your laptops, phones, and anything else.

Is it Approved?: Yes it is! Thumbs Up! As you can see the clothes are legit, catchy, printed & fit right. All that's left is go get yourself something!

Final Word

All this gear is available now here! This is also up on Karmaloop Kazbah where there are even more designs there for you to cop! Make sure to follow Cloud IX Clothing on Twitter. Also right now when you purchase clothes use the code: THEBASEDUPDATE to get free shipping!

Mario & Domo vs. The World Review

Mario & Domo vs. The World Review

I don't even know where to begin with this mixtape. If you want an official grade for it, I would give it a 2 out of 5. After listening to this mixtape I can tell you that I will never listen to it again fully. The only songs that may even be worth a second play are All Gold Everything and Money Man.

Both of those tracks share the same producer, Young L. Young L's beats and producing skills made this mixtape better and it masked some of its faults. Furthermore, if I hear Soulja Boy say Pink Dolphin Clothing or Based one more time as if its his to claim.... I will lose it. It seems Soulja Boy is pulling a Lil B all over again.

I have nothing against Soulja Boy, it just seems this way yet again with another artist. I think that 2012 is going to be the year for Young L, but this is not a great start. Young L has too much uniqueness and special talent to collab with an artist like Soulja Boy. I'm sorry this is not much of a review, but I really don't have much to say about it. Just don't waste you're time with it and look forward to great mixtapes and albums coming this year from Young L 'solo-ly.'

DC Comics New Identity

DC Comics New Identity

Set to be unveiled across various products and media beginning in March 2012, the new DC logo will adapt to fit the distinctive brands, characters and marketable objects to which it will be applied. The logo is a component of the company’s aesthetic overhaul which includes the successful, albeit controversial New 52, a publishing initiative whereby the entire superhero line was relaunched with new #1 issues in an attempt to draw new readers. The old “DC Spin” logo was introduced in 2005 as a replacement for the classic “DC Bullet” that had been in place since the 1970s. The design of the new DC Entertainment identity uses a “peel” effect – the D is strategically placed over the C with the upper right-hand portion of the D peeling back to unveil the hidden C – symbolizing the duality of the iconic characters that are present within DC Entertainment’s portfolio.

Melissa Riso "Based Beauties"

Ms. Cris "Based Beauties"

Name: Melissa Riso
Nationality: Italian and Guamanian
Measurements: 32C-24-34
Website(s): Official Site.

Tell us about yourself. What’s your name? Where are you from?
- My name is Melissa Riso and I am from Monterey Bay CA. My dad raised me and my sister alone and my mother left us when I was in the fourth grade. So I am a daddy’s girl big time! I am a hair stylist when I’m not modeling and I have been doing that for 6 years.

How did you get involved with modeling? How long have you been doing it for?
- I got into modeling when I first moved to San Diego. I was cutting a news reporters hair and he asked me if I had an agent. I said no and he got me started with acting and the modeling came easy after that. I’ve been doing acting and modeling for 7 years. I love it! It never gets old!

What is your favorite part about modeling? What is your least favorite part?
- My favorite part about modeling is meeting so many cool people and traveling. The one thing that bumbs me out about this career is you can’t do it forever and you have to deal with pervs and stalkers.

What has been the highlight so far of your modeling career?
- I think the highlights of my modeling career is getting seven magazine covers in the last two years!

Being a model, and noticing what people like about you, what part of your body would you say attracts the most attention?
- I think people either love or hate my tattoo on my tummy. I only got that tattoo because its covering a 6 inch scar from a awful car accident I got into in 2000, I almost died so they had to cut me open. Some guys thinks its hot and some just don’t like it and they don’t know the story behind it.

If you could choose one person to have a photo shoot with, who would it be? Why?
- I think I would love to have a photo shoot with Edwin from Twilight lol!

If you had the option to model for any brand in the world, what brand would it be? Why?
- I LOVE GUESS! If I could model for them I will be so happy. That’s all I wear! Lol.

What is something that people don’t know about you?
- Something that most people don’t know about me is I used to be a security agent (bouncer) at a night club in San Diego. I might look small but I can throw it down when I need to. Lol Oh and I have a hot pink Taser lol.

What is the worst and best thing anybody has tried to do to get your attention?
- The best thing is send flowers to my job. The worse thing was send me emails non stop and stalking me.

What do you think of the word “based” and what it represents?
- The word based actually means a lot to me. I only do what I want to do. I don’t care what people think unless they are trying to teach me something. If I want to do something that makes me happy I will do it. If I want to do something dangerous I will for the excitement!

What words of advice would you give to all the young girls out there aspiring to be models?
- I would tell them don’t ever starve yourself. Be healthy and work out. Don’t ever act like a diva and never give up on your dreams.

Where can we find and learn more about you?
- You can go to my Official Website. That has all my best photos and commercials and music videos. I also have a little bio of me.

Facebook: Does it make you sad?

Facebook: Friends' Happy Pictures Make You Sad?

I found this story very interesting and since everyone and their mother has a Facebook, I thought this should be here for you to read.

There are plenty of reasons to feel down in today's fast-paced, hectic world, and you wouldn't think that the world's most popular social networking site would be one of them. But that's exactly what a new study by Utah Valley University has found. According to the study, Facebook is making us sad. Why? It's all about the kinds of pictures people to post on their pages.

Facebook photos generally depict smiling, cheerful people having good times, conveying a sense of happiness. Of course everyone likes to smile for the camera, so that good cheer may be inflated or false. As others view the photos, they may believe this conveyed sense of intense happiness is real, making them think that their friends are much happier than they are.

Sociologists Hui-Tzu Grace Chou and Nicholas Edge said they interviewed 425 students, asking them whether they agreed or disagreed with such statements as "Many of my friends have a better life than me," and "Life is fair."

They also asked about the students' Facebook usage, including how many "friends" they had on the site, and how many of those friends were really people they knew. After controlling for race, gender, religious beliefs and whether the volunteers were unattached or in a relationship, the researchers saw a pattern: The more time students spent on Facebook, the more they thought others had it better than they did. "Those who have used Facebook longer agreed more that others were happier, and agreed less that life is fair, and those spending more time on Facebook each week agreed more that others were happier and had better lives," wrote Chou and Edge. "Furthermore, those that included more people whom they did not personally know as their Facebook "friends" agreed more that others had better lives."

The study, which was published in the journal Cyberpsychology, Behavior and Social Networking, also found that people who spent less time socializing with friends in cyberspace and more time socializing with them in real life were less likely to report they were unhappy.

So if you are looking for a way to cheer yourself up, the researchers say you may do well to log off Facebook. Call your best friend instead.

Metropolis II Museum of Art

Metropolis II is a 20-by-30-foot kinetic installation modeled by Chris Burden after its namesake. The labyrinthine structure is an artfully woven maze of roads housing an endless procession of more than a thousand tiny cars and trains. The remarkable thing about the 18-road system, more than its six-lane freeway, is the fact that it is strategically designed to propel the multitude of miniature cars in an endless and effortless circuit. The only motorization in the structure involves magnets pulling the cars up a conveyor belt to its high point before letting gravity take over. Producing a scale speed of 240 miles per hour in its miniatures, Metropolis II makes a compelling argument for Burden’s dream of a fully-automated automotive Arcadia.

Wikipedia Anti-SOPA Blackout

Following the recent announcement that it was joining the ranks of protesters in the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) battle, Wikipedia officially began a 24-hour online blackout at the stroke of midnight East Coast United States time on January 18. This move aligns the largest online encyclopedia with a host of opposition to the SOPA and PIPA legislation, who believe that the legislation, if passed, would infringe upon the free exchange of information that many value. The bill would permit the Justice Department of the United States and content owners the ability to seek a court order that would require search engines to block certain results that are associated with pirated material. The protest has understandably garnished hardened opinions on both sides of the spectrum, with Wikipedia’s actions positioning it as one of the more notably outspoken and extreme measures in protest. Let your voice be heard in opposition of the movement, join the petition to prevent SOPA today.

A Look Inside the Nike Kobe System

Earlier this week Nike Basketball sent out a special Kobe System Success Pack, which we will highlight tomorrow. Along with a Kobe backpack and iPad 2, came a series of images focused on the design process of the Kobe VII, Nike’s brilliant Kobe System campaign and even several original sketches. As you can see above, the entire Kobe VII project was a painstaking, time-consuming effort with plenty of foundation in the inspiration department. If anything, the shots above further cement Nike’s midas touch when it comes to concept, design and execution.

PressPlayHouse Documentary Film

Does democratized culture mean better art, film, music and literature, or is true talent instead flooded and drowned in the vast digital ocean of mass culture? That is the question addressed by PressPausePlay, a documentary film containing interviews with some of the world’s most influential creators of the digital era. Through a stream of wise words and striking images, House of Radon explores what the digital revolution has done to the arts. The entire riveting documentary is available to watch online right now.

Vadim Kibardin “White + White” Clock

Russian designer Vadim Kibardin’s “White + White” Clock is a three-dimensional take on the traditional digital clock. The white LED digits are set in a frame crafted from white ABS plastic that offers the option for both 12 and 24 hour display modes. As Kibardin’s attention to detail is second to none, the piece interacts with its environment as the time display may dim or brighten according to the presence or absence of external light. The clock was made available for pre-sale in November of 2011 and is now in production in 2012.

Packaging:First of all, the shipping was express mail! That is great bonus because who wants to wait for gear to come in? The second thing is that everything was individually wrapped in poly bags making it not only more professional but extra secure.

Design: The designs are pretty cool. If I had to use a couple words to describe it, it would be simple, catchy, and elegant. Why elegant? The elegance can be seen through the "Ecstasy" t-shirt which is inspired from the L'Estasi di Santa Teresa sculpture crafted by Gian Lorenzo Bernini's and the simplicity can be seen with the "Sangre" t-shirt which is a reminder to us all that beauty can be deceiving.

Quality: Lets go piece by piece... To start off lets go with the crewneck, there is nothing wrong with it at all! Thumbs up! The material is premium, printing is great, it's soft and it's warm. Now on to the shirts... the shirts are soft and smooth, and fit well to the size they are marked as. But, the shirts are not super solid (thick), they are more the american apparel style of tee. That is to be marked as a negative, it is just another style of tee.

Whats left: There were accessories with this package which is okay because what matters the most is the gear!

Is it Approved?: Yes it is! If I could persuade you to buy one thing it would be the The "Phantom" crewneck! It is inspired by the Rolls Royce car, a masterpiece of luxury and art. That is the piece that is both catchy, simple, and elegant! Go and cop it!

Final Word

All this gear is available now here! This line is also a sub link with TMT Clothing store as well so you can get some other gear there if you are feeling them too! While you are at it, follow Black Rose Limited on Twitter.

Kanye West Announces New Design Company Called DONDA

Kanye West has announced the launch of his new design company, DONDA, set to create “products and experiences” for people. The company will encompass 22 different divisions, including architects, graphic designers, directors, producers, social media experts, publishers, lawyers, nutritionists, scientists, doctors, teachers, A&R’s, etc. Through numerous tweets, Yeezy revealed that he intends to “help simplify and aesthetically improve everything we see hear, touch, taste and feel.”

The multifaceted artist further clarified recent reports about his upcoming clothing line for women by negating that it would be named “DW” after his mother, Dr. Donda West. “The name of the line is Kanye West not DW,…the DW was a design element placed on the invite in homage to my mom.” All the proceeds from his hit albums like The Throne’s Watch the Throne have been invested in his entire endeavor within the fashion world. “You guys might think I have some type of backing for my line but I don’t,” Kanye said. “I did the first fashion show out of my own pocket and used the money I made touring to follow my passion. I’ve been working at this for 8 years now.”

In addition, he offered a personal recount on his deep dedication in fashion, asserting that his international reputation has been rather an obstacle than help.

“For the first 16 or 17 years of my life the only thing I knew about my woman’s clothing was what my Mom would wear. I guess some critics would joke that I still don’t know anything LOL. The teachers said I couldn’t focus… I used to get kicked out of class for bringing dirty mags and drawing Nikeys in 4th grade…Being a celebrity has afforded me many opportunities but has also boxed me in creatively,” Kanye revealed. “What good is fame and prestige if you can’t use it to help people… I want to help by doing what I know how to do best .. create.”

Furthermore, Kanye stated that he intends to reshape the American school system, which he says was “designed to turn people into factory workers.” That includes starting a summer school with director Spike Jonze. “There are so many broken systems from the economy to school systems jail systems… we need experts for this.” Ambitious plans indeed. Leave your thoughts below.
